Academy of Rabindra Sangeet
Rabindranath Tagore was Asia’s first Nobel Prize winner. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1913 for his book ‘Gitanjali’. As well as being a Seer poet Tagore’s achievements included notable contributions in the fields of music, literature, plays, art and education reformer. Tagore was born in 1861, the youngest son of Debendranath Tagore and Sarada Devi. Rabindranath wrote his first poem at the age of 6 and as a young boy studied the classical poetry of Kalidasa. In 1901 Tagore moved to Santiniketan (West Bengal) where he found an ashram, dedicated to returning educational traditions of ancient India.
Later this school was to be expanded and given the name of Shriniketan ‘ “Abode of Peace”. In 1913 Tagore was informed that he had been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. Tagore’s poetry was influenced by traditional Indian poetry. Later he was influenced by the Baoul tradition, which is a tradition of traditional Bengali folk music. In 1940 Oxford University arranged a special ceremony in Santiniketan to honor the poet with Doctorate of Literature. Tagore passed away on 7th August, 1941 in his ancestral home in Calcutta, the house where he was born. . . . ------------ Team Muktodhara
Me being a Masters in English Literature is at present working in a Govt. school, namely Udaipur English Medium H/S School in Udaipur, Gomati Tripura. Right from the very childhood I felt a soothing ambience for music at my home as my grandfather Late Satya Ranjan Bose was the first student of Santiniketan from Tripura. As the homely atmosphere matters a lot, me too was very much attracted towards RabindraSangeet from the very age of 3 and my mother was my first tutor at home . My father being a graduate from Jadavpur University in Printing Technology was always a keen lover in this subject which always helped me a lot to improve. Must be mentioned that he was the only source of inspiration for me in this field. In 1995 when I appeared for my H/S exam I started learning Rabindrasangeet from my guru Sri Samir Kanti Das, who has been awarded Rabindra Puraskar from the Tripura Govt. For the last 20 years I have been learning music from him and after so many years I just want to dedicate the rest of my life to Tagore’s song. Recently, I have started my own music school named ‘MUKTODHARA’ in which I would like to teach some of them who are just an ardent lover of Rabindrasangeet.
"Muktodhara" can be said to be my dream come true. I always wanted to be in the field of music, especially Rabindrasangeet and with that motto started my journey with Muktodhara on 26th April’13, inaugurated by my Sangeet guru Sri Samir Kanti das, Sri Bikach Choudhury, an awardee of Rabindra Purashkar and also our Bangladesh Mission Pradhan, Sri Obaydur Rahman. The only motto of this institution is to teach Tagore’s song to each and every one whoever is an ardent lover of this. Today when we are in such a phase when there is no copyright and everyone is doing some experiments I individually believe that Rabindrasangeet can be sung totally following the notation, yes, obviously for rendering the feelings we can use some techniques but without changing anything what Kabiguru has done. Children right from the very beginning should learn the thing in such a way that it can’t be forgotten , it has to be cherished and loved, not just mugging up and vomiting in the exam hall as a matter of punishment. So my dear friends, come up, learn music and love music and make it a passion for you as well for everyone. Muktodhara is there for you to do so with my pranam for the Nobel Lauratte.
